Iowa slaughterhouse manager sent to NY prison
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — A former Iowa kosher slaughterhouse executive is serving his 27-year prison sentence on federal financial fraud convictions at a medium security prison in Otisville, New York.
According to an order filed Monday in U.S. District Court in Cedar Rapids, Sholom Rubashkin was transferred to the Federal Correctional Institution on Aug. 2.
Rubashkin’s attorney, Guy Cook, had requested Otisville during his sentencing hearing.
Cook noted Monday that the prison is close to Rubashkin’s family and it can accommodate his religious obligations.
Rubashkin, a former manager of Agriprocessors in Postville, was convicted last fall of 86 charges. He is seeking a new trial.
Agriprocessors was the site of a May 2008 immigration raid in which 389 workers were arrested.
